Eligibility Criteria
To apply, you typically need:
- Strong academic background (bachelor’s or master’s degree, usually with top grades) in relevant field. Leaving Nigeria+1
- Meet Oxford’s entry requirements for the DPhil programme, including English language proficiency where required. Leaving Nigeria+1

Important Deadlines
- The application period includes an early deadline (often ~1 October 2025) and at least one final deadline (e.g. 1 February 2026) for some regions/programmes. Leaving Nigeria+1
- You must also ensure all parts of your application (transcripts, proposal, references, etc.) are submitted before these deadlines. Leaving Nigeria+1
How to Apply
- Identify a DPhil project / supervisor at Oxford that fits with EIT’s priority innovation themes.
- Prepare required documents: academic transcripts, research proposal, CV, references, proof of English proficiency if needed.
- Submit your DPhil application via University of Oxford’s graduate admissions portal by the relevant deadline.
- Simultaneously or as part of the EIT / Ellison application, indicate interest in the Graduate Scholars Programme. Sometimes there may be an additional application form specific to EIT. eit.org+1
- If shortlisted, you may have further steps such as interviews.
Pros & Things to Consider

Things to Check / Be Careful About:
- Highly competitive: many applicants globally.
- Ensure your research proposal is very well aligned with EIT’s themes, and that you can show prior work or strong potential.
- Be mindful of the English language requirement and ensure your credentials/transcripts are in order.
- Living in UK is expensive; verify stipend amount and whether it sufficiently covers rent, travel, etc.
- Visa / documentation processes might add time.
